HBC News: Bogotá un día más

Much beloved HBC Family,

Seated on a stool using PowerPoint to put the scriptures hugely on the wall, while waving the infrared pointer, p Arocha brings the teaching. It turns into preaching very quickly. He speaks about the Incarnation, Substitution, Justification, Imputed righteousness and the necessity of faith as if he had just heard about them for the first time. The report is urgent and vital to bring to those those who would have no knowledge, yet they do have, knowledge and understanding of them. His energy and passion for the truths of the word flow appropriately and steady into the nearly every seat filled room. Illustrations are perspicuous and helpful. Familiar passages come alive again. Questions are most welcome.
Biblical answers come.

We had a wonderful day of worship, communion, lunch together. Worship in song is marvelous with contemporary songs and music from gifted musicians and singers, not the least of which is pastor Manuel Cendales. The congregational singing was vigorous and voluminous. Love the percussion too. The Lord gave the best fluency on the final day of ministry for SS. Felt it and exploited it :-) Gave an encouragement to evangelism from Phillip and the Ethiopian eunuch. Abigail sent me the PowerPoint already prepared in Spanish. This was so helpful. Just really a great day. Thankful for Heath and Lester who grabbed the reigns of Joshua.

P. Aocha goes home to Santiago early Monday morning. I will be back on Tuesday as the p. Guillermo Gomez family wants me as their guest. In God’s providence, the p Gomez did not attend the Gospel Through Colombia conference. I’d like to be used of God to move him closer to the GTE group by hearing him out and interviewing, then by offering a humble opinion to my very close Colombian bro. Please pray about this. Thanks tons for all the approaches to the throne of limitless grace for us. God is doing a mighty work in Columbia.

Much love,
pK

What I just sent to the church’s

Dear HBC Family,

God is really blessing here. Your prayers have been effectual. Hoping you will continue is this partnership. The first day of the conference here in Medellín went very well. Pastor Arocha is an outstanding preacher/teacher. His themes last night were an intro into the Decrees of God; his existence and the Trinity. They were very well received by a gathering of 200+ in p.Sergio Ruiz’s church. P Sam knows him as one of his students in the modular training here in Colombia. Sergio himself is a fine pastor and preacher (a medical doctor too) in a growing church. I brought just one message on the Love of God focusing on some characteristics which fit well with this attribute: God’s goodness, mercy&grace, and his patience. I was grateful for the Lord’s help.
We will be here till Monday. Then we will be off to Montería (flying) for an afternoon early evening conference then to Montelíbano on Tuesday (driving) then to Sincelejo (driving) on Wednesday then flying to Bucaramanga on Thursday. Finally we will fly to Bogotá on Friday. In all these places we will be giving the same conference messages. P Arocha is carrying the far greater burden with the Doctrine of God. I have the same 4 messages on the Love & Wrath of God. Please pray for us and those who hear. God can bring an over the top blessing in each place.
I will be preaching tomorrow in p Héctor Romero’s church here in Medellín. HBC supports him $100 per month and a bro in the church also helps him. He’s a great guy. P Sam knows him too again from the modular training. Héctor is a young widower with two sons. He hopes to be married again and have a helper. He is truly a delightful pastor.
We have been well cared for here in the Vazquez home. It is really quite luxurious even by American standards. Napoleón and his wife Lucy own and run a small blue kid’s jean factory and it does well. We’ve been eating like kings. The fruits are unbelievable; they have many I have never seen before. The city is incredibly clean. Public transportation is advanced with trains, trolleys, buses, taxis. The beautiful mountains are the background for everything. Reformation is advancing here in Colombia with so much outreach and open doors in the same way it is in La República Dominicana as reportedly it is doing in the global south. We are hoping to enable Cuba to do the same thing.

Many, many thanks for your prayers and thanks again for those who helped with the books. There is great joy here because of them.

With much love, pK

De Colombia. Otro reporte.

Dear HBC Family much beloved,

As always and truly, thanks for your prayers.

All is going so well  under the blessing of our great God.  I really believe that Pastor  Arocha is very close to being the John Piper of Latin America.  He  preached twice; SS and a. m.  The themes were “God in Christ has united  his glory with our happiness” and ” Christian obedience is a joy. ”  The house was packed to overflowing at the church where Sergio Ruiz is  the fine pastor.  He looks so much younger than 48 to me but maybe  that is partially because I am so far past that age.  The people here  (and other places) really love Arocha; he is somewhat of a “celebrity”  in best sense of that term.   The Lord really helped at the church where Pastor Hector Romero has a  flock under his care.  I was so glad and excited to be there in the  poorer part of Medellín closer to the mountains and ascending with  thousands living there.  This is the field of harvest for Hector.  Our  HBC funds are well invested with this passionate, attractive, gentle  Ben kind of pastor.  I will have a good report to share upon returning  for the first time ever of this work we have been supporting for  several years.  I learned a lot for having been there just one time. He  wanted a message on Evangelism so the one I brought was Phillip and  the Ethiopian Eunuch.  God gave us good time together with much  praying, crying, singing, reading the scriptures out loud one by one,  the Lord’s Supper and sweet fellowship together.  An unforgettable  time.   We will be off to Montería tomorrow, Monday at 5:00 a. m.  We will be  flying and then staying in a hotel.  Other places to stay will be at a  seminary and in homes.  Please remember us in your prayers.  This is all  totally new to me.  I am counting on God more that ever in all my  weakness, sleep difficulty, and surrounded with Spanish all the time.   May God be pleased to use the weakest of instruments that all the  glory may easily and naturally go to Him.

With much love, pK

HBC News: Montería

 Dear HBC Family, much beloved,

Writing you from Montería an hour and half from the carribean coast. In great contrast to Medellín, Montería is a large agricultural community with a population of about 600,000. Yuka, corn, yams, cotton, rice, bananas, beans, and variety of other fruits are the principle products found in abundance here. It is an economically poorer place than Medellín. They are between 2 or 3 times more motorcycles here than cars. Little yellow taxis are very popular for transportation. Many of the streets and roads are not paved.
Last night God granted us a marvelous time with a packed house at a loaned Presbyterian church building. Below you have a picture of pastor Arocha doing what he does so well: teaching and preaching. Using PowerPoint, he taught and preached passionately on the Trinity. It the very hot Colombian evening, the room was full to overflowing to the street the only empty seat you see is mine with my black backpack next to it. The Lord helped again with my message through a fine translation, superb, with pastor Sergio Ruiz as really as a team together with his passionate comments mixed with what the Lord enabled be to prepare. The Love of God was the theme. Several asked me to send them the message when I can by email.

Your prayers are precious. We really need them. We leave for Montelíbano in a little while; about an hour away. I never know what awaits us except that God has shown that he is going before us and making the plan A provisions every time for his glory. This is a sweet and good lesson to learn.

Mucho amor en Cristo Jesús, pK

HBC News: más de Colombia

 Dearly beloved HBC Family,

Wow, we are doing so many things and finding ourselves in new places. God is leading on perfectly. I like the painting on the wall in my office by Kelly McK that Gary Lawless gave me one time. It’s of a loaded burro on his way to Latin destinations with hymn 444 in the sky. Great to be led even if I have no idea where we are going or what will happen. Burros just go and follow the master who provides well for them. Montelíbano
 Corozal
 Morroa
Above are the three cities where we were and ministered. We are in the last one right now at a
Catholic seminary that is being rented for this event. Near the coast is noticeably warmer. :-
The pastors and wives are arriving. Pastor Arocha carries the ball and I catch a pass as a wide receiver and carry the ball a shorter a distance. He has the same rich and needed themes. They have a video projector here and a nice screen. You can imagine how I would have liked to have brought PowerPoint! With God’s help, I will bring a new message for the first time: The Wrath of God…one of his excellent attributes lesser heard and appreciated. Please pray

This has been a adventure with a city-wide blackout right after the service in Montelíbano, unbelievable water mellon, fresh fish from a pure river, only one faucet in the shower 8), Wifi found in strategic places, tons of new friends in the family of Christ and God our Father, food of every kind free of hormones, preservatives, artificial color and other chemicals, unbelievable fruits and above all strong Christian affection.

Glad to hear that all is well at HBC with the fine teaching and preaching, CareNet presentation, and yes, Care Groups tonight. I can’t express adequately my thankfulness for your prayers. It seems we have been here for months. We hope for more prayers even short, quick ones.
Praying for HBC here in Colombia.
Mucho Amor en Cristo, pKid

HBC News:Conferencia de Bucaramanga

 Dear HBC Family muy amada:

After a wonderfully blessed time with the coastal pastors we arose very early (4:30am) and took a taxi ride to Montería and caught a plane for Bogotá where we connected with a no seats empty flight to Bucaramanga. I was able to share Christ with a the passenger next to me who welcomed my questions about where we were going; his city of Bucaramanga. As he professed to be a Christian, I was compelled to ask him where he attended church. He smiled and said the catholic church. Wide open door for me connect the dots to Jesus more than just an idea or historical figure. He now has the excellent tract, 2 Ways to Live. Arocha and I both prayed for him while he was reading it. He put it in his bag. Pray please for this man, late 50′s named Guillermo.

This is a beautiful city in the mountains of with about 1.5 million people living here. Out host, Pastor Jorge told us there are only about a handful of biblically evangelical churches here. From what I gather the city produces a super abundance of chickens and shoes which are exported to
Venezuela. The city is also known for its multiplied parks and for having a million dollar bronze sculpture by the famous Colombian painter / sculptor Fernando Botero in one of them.

Tonight we have about 25 present 15 of which are pastors. P Arocha is doing his usual fine job with the Doctrine of God with a very attentive audience. It is just really good stuff. Below you have a picture of this humble and glorious event. Tomorrow we head back to Bogotá for an all day. conference. Please don’t let up in your prayers. Hold the ropes for this part of the global south where the gospel and reformation are advancing as perhaps never before. Many thanks. Mucho amor, pKid
 P.S. Boo-kah-rah-mahng- gah
P.P.S. Just a met a younger Assembly of God leader (not a
pastor) who is a part of church with 5,000 in attendance with multiple services. He aspires to be a missionary to Asia or North Africa. They have missionaries in India, Bangladesh, and Butan. He says ” we look like them and we can learn the language. His name is Juan José.

HBC News: Bogotá

Muy amada familia de HBC
 [GTC= The Gospel Through Colmbia]

Following a perfect plan A providence, we arose early to leave Bucaramanga for the grand capital city of Bogotá. With its 8 million+ inhabitants and a very high altitude giving its year round cool climate, we were about to escape the much warmer spots. Our flight was cancelled…we then spent the better part of the day touring and enjoying fellowship in Bucaramanga. Our flight was to leave at 4. We got off later but landed in Bogotá safe and sound.

Here we are guests of pastor Manuel Cendales and his “Rebuilding Reforming Baptist Church” This is the sense that “Iglesia Comunidad Cristiana Reedificando” has in their city sector. Pastor Arocha again opened the conference with another packed house of 150. The worship in song was wonderful with skilled percussion, electric an acoustic guitars and a keyboard like ours. Contemporary songs sung
enthusiastically were what brought tears to not only me.

Pastor Arocha was up first sitting on high stool using PowerPoint for the rich Doctrine of God. I was up second with the Wrath of God. GTC gives me and translator plus the free opportunity to say whatever I want in español. Below you have me with emotion and Pastor Cristian Achury waiting for his turn. The Lord helped us much with all of our weakness; yo by far the weaker.

P Arocha was up again and did so well with plenty of Q&A. Then my turn for the Love of God. A most unusual providence came when I was just getting into 7 characteristics of the Love of God. It started raining furiously…so loudly with the metal roof that we had to stop. Then the water started coming in the building…then more and more. Marble sized hail came in abundance. Ceiling tiles began to fall as the water began to come in and we scrambled to get buckets, tubs, mops, brooms and barrels. The hail covered the streets (got pics) and it was clear that was it for the day. We stacked chairs and others mopped. Quite an experience for me.

Learning much about the work of the Lord in Colombia. Exciting. I plan to find a way to ship books here and empty my supply. The books the HBC team were quickly distributed and out of sight.

Pastor Arocha will be preaching in the a.m. Adult SS is mine. Please pray and give thanks for how God had blessed here. Have a little unity work to do between GTC and one fine pastor I really love. Something to pray about too. Enjoyed seeing some of the bros who have befriended me from a previous GTC conference and some from the Modular training. God is so GOOD.

Much Love, pK
