Greetings in Christ,
Thank-you for your prayers and intercessions for us. We had a most wonderful trip and knew Christ’s help in all our labors. We had 10 flights in 10 days and all went extremely well. The week began with a trip to a Peruvian village along a river in the Jungle region of Northern Peru. This is an area where God has blessed the labors of many years of evangelizing and there is a receptivity to the Gospel. The setting is as primitive as you might imagine, but what a joy to meet the pastor of the local village church who has a real zeal for Christ. Our Missionary Larry Secrest labors each Summer putting together Medical Mission trips in regions such as this. (see pict with small float plane)
We returned to Lima where we were blessed to meet many of the contacts that our Missionary Larry Secrest has made over the last year. He has been working closely with a number of Heart Cry Peruvian pastors. The men we met are serious and studious men. We worshipped and ministered in the church in Lima where the Secrests presently worship. The pastor, Walter Issse, is a fine man and it was a joy to be among them for the lord’s Day. The second week we traveled to Sullana in the Coastal region near Ecuador. We spoke at a conference for the inauguration of a new Seminary that is working under the Universidad Seminario Reformado Latinoamericano in Medellin, Columbia. There were over 80 men in attendance. Many of these men live in the Andes mountains and had travelled a long distance to attend. Gospel Through Columbia had chartered a bus so that man of them could travel a 7 hour bus trip to attend. We were told that there are over 30 Reformed Baptist churches in the Mountains with attendance between 100 to 300 per church. They hold an annual conference in the mountains each year with over 1500 sleeping under quilts filling a valley for 3 days to hear preaching. Thanks to Chapel library and the bookstore of Iglesia Bautista Reformada De North Bergen, NJ we were able to give every attendee a packet of books that were greatly appreciated. A highlight of the trip was to see the response of these men when Larry preached to them with tears in his eyes. (see pict in seminary)
Our hearts were thrilled to see what God has done and is doing in Peru. We can’t thank-you enough for your prayers for us.
